šŸ’ MY THOUGHTS

This was just the book I needed after reading two very heavy books in a row. SUMMER ROMANCE was a sweet, closed door, high-stakes romance. Reminiscent of Abby Jimenezā€™s inclusion of deeper topics, this one too dealt with complicated family dynamics and death of loved ones in a sensitive way.

FMC Ali Morris is going through an emotionally charged divorce from a narcissistic husband; she is mother to three children, care-taker and friend to her elderly neighbour, and trying to put one foot in front of the other. Sheā€™s been going through the motions for a long time, until an unexpected summer fling happens.

On the surface, this sounds like a low-stakes summer fling but I ran the gamut of emotions listening to this one. The characters are completely lovable, the romance between these 40-somethings is not only sweet but believable as they navigate adult responsibilities and the expectations of others.

This is a story of people finding themselves, growing into the people they want to be, and supporting those around them as they fall madly in love with one another and make room in their lives for wonderment.
